Within the technological age, fusing two ancient practices for the benefit of the modern healer has become much easier.

Tea has been used for thousands of years as medicine, before becoming a social drink. The importance of drinking the right tea after certain events, times or activities is very beneficial to the body's health. Learning what tea to drink when, can help maintain not only our body's health, but our spiritual wellbeing also.

We understand how the body can be affected by imbalances or blockages within our energy system of chakras. Each of the seven chakras is associated with different parts of the body, such as the heart or the throat. The chakra energy system communicates with the body through organs and glands, for maintaining balance and health.

When there is an energy imbalance in one of the chakras, a disturbance can happen within the physical body, for example, having a blockage in the heart chakra can cause high blood pressure.

Whilst working on balancing these chakras, we have carefully selected a tea to drink after a chakra healing meditation or yoga session, that will help the natural unblocking and balancing of each chakra by concentrating on the physical organs  and systems affected; through cleansing and detoxing using this ancient medicinal tradition. Today we will look at the Root Chakra.

The Root Chakra, also known as the Muladhara Chakra is considered by some as the most important, as it directs our energy to the rest of our chakras. Located at the bottom of the spine, this chakra governs the Reproductive Glands, kidneys and large intestines.

When the root chakra is unbalanced, a person may experience weight loss or weight gain, over or under active sex drives, laziness, depression or kidney infections.

After carefully studying the issues of root chakra imbalances on the body, we picked four of our favourite teas for use after meditation or yoga, focusing on this very important Chakra.

For women, we chose our ‘Hot Flash’- Blended with White Tea, Green Tea, Verbena Leaves and Mate Leaves, this tea is perfect for after Root Chakra work. Hot Flash regulates hormones, as well as flushing out toxins from the kidneys. It is miracle for relaxation within both the mind and body. With a sweet aroma and earthy taste, the tea is a reminder of the innate love of nature we all share, grounding us into the physical world we exist in, feeling connected with Mother Nature's gift.

For men, we chose Raspberry Leaf’. Although most commonly known for its beneficial use for late pregnant women, raspberry leaf is amazing for regulating hormones within men. Especially those who choose to eat meat, due to food being laden with oestrogen in the form of soy, excessive oestrogen can affect men’s hormones causing loss of muscle, decrease in hair, fatigue, poor memory, low stress tolerance and increase in fat. Drinking Raspberry Leaf can help maintain a healthy hormone balance within the reproductive glands.

As an all rounder for both men and women, we advice a ‘Rooibos Earl Grey. Rooibos is a native South African Bush used for its amazing health benefits on the body. Rooibos directly cleans and detoxes the kidneys, maintaining the normal functioning of the kidneys, and preventing kidney infections. With bergamot oil, this delicate tea is highly relaxing, you can’t help but smile after your first sip.

An incredible Root Chakra Herbal is ‘Dandelion Root’. Root yourself with drinking roots. This herbal has incredible health benefits, but we will just focus on the relevant ones for our Muladhara. Dandelion root is known for its gentle detoxification, aiding in purifying the bladder and kidneys. Drinking one cup contains a multitude of vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, potassium, vitamins B and C. We enjoy this drink with some fresh lemon, or agave for a slightly sweeter taste.

What we love about drinking tea is the natural mindfulness we find through drinking Loose Leaf Tea, an extension of meditation, of connectedness and the power of the present moment. Drinking tea is all about the experience, and even though it's beneficial to our health, our body, our mind, our maintaining and balancing of Chakras, it is also just wonderful to enjoy a nice hot cup of tea.
